Community Food Bank

 

Our Food Bank is available to low-income individuals, families and seniors in South Frontenac and rural Kingston (north of Hwy. 401). Registration can be done over the phone. Upon registration, clients may use the Food Bank once a month. Hampers include 7 days’ worth of perishable and non-perishable food items, amounts based on the number of people in the household. In the summer, our garden provides fresh produce to supplement the food hampers.

Guidelines

• Food hampers are available for pick-up Tuesday through Thursday.

• ​Call 2 days prior to pickup to place an order.

• Deliveries are available if necessary. A delivery fee may apply.

• When placing your order, be sure to mention any special dietary needs.

Food Items as available:

• Fresh seasonal produce from our community garden.

• Perishables such as: vegetables, fruit, milk, bread, eggs, meat and protein products.

• Family staples such as peanut butter, cereal, pasta, pasta sauce, soup and healthy school snacks.

• Diapers, formula and baby food are usually available.

• Personal hygiene/toiletries, pet food, upon request and availability.

Community Support

Southern Frontenac Community Service's Food Bank relies on donations from local churches, schools, organizations, and the general public. Service is provided primarily by dedicated volunteers. If you would like to help out, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator.

 

Grace Community Garden

Our on-site greenhouse and community garden provide fresh, organic produce from April-November to families each month. All the planting, weeding, and harvesting is done by an amazing group of green-thumbed volunteers.

Membership & Ethics

Southern Frontenac Community Services is a member of the Feed Ontario network as well as Food Banks Canada, and as such, upholds national and provincial standards for the operation of food banks. We are committed to:

• Provide food and other assistance to those needing help regardless of race, national or ethnic origin, citizenship, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, income source, age, and mental or physical ability.

• Treat all those who access services with the utmost dignity and respect. Implement best practices in the proper and safe storage and handling of food. Respect the privacy of those served and will maintain the confidentiality of personal information.

Donations

Donations of food or cash are always appreciated. Items most in need include: children's snacks, peanut butter, canned meats and fish, pork and beans, pasta sauce, canned stew and chili, soda crackers, mac and cheese, and juice. Monetary donations for perishable items such as milk, fruit and vegetables are always appreciated.  Hygiene items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, diapers and baby wipes are also appreciated.

Southern Frontenac Community Services has a goal to reduce hunger and break the cycle of poverty through education and offering nutritious food to our food bank clients.
