What the Welfare Rights Service Does?
We advise Tameside residents on a range of benefit and tax credit entitlements.
The advice given by the service is completely independent, impartial, confidential and free. We have no ties to benefit agencies or other interested parties.
The service recognises that individuals must make their own decisions, and that the role of the service is to give people the information they need to be able to exercise their rights.

Alternatively you can phone us on the Benefits Freephone* Advice Line on 0800 074 9985 (Monday and Wednesday 9.30am – 12.30pm)
*Calls from some mobiles may be charged so check with your network provider. Alternatively, when you call you could ask us to call you back.
If you call our advice line, please have available your National Insurance number, details of your income and earnings (e.g. from benefits, tax credits, work and pensions), and details of all savings and capital you have.
We will allocate a named caseworker to you in those cases where we feel long term support is needed e.g. if you need representation at an appeal tribunal.

Other Services
Interpreter services can be arranged for people who have English as a second language.
For people who are restricted to their home through disability, a home visiting service can be arranged.
