Boat Ramp Closure

Aug. 25, 2022 - The boat ramps are closed due to the low lake level. Contact the park or check back for updates.

Pool Closed

March 28, 2024 - The pool will not be open in 2024 due to repairs for safety. We appreciate your patience and invite you to take advantage of all of the other wonderful opportunities the park has to offer.

Park Closure

The park will be closed for an annual pool cleaning on May 6-10, 2024.

Reservations Recommended

June 1, 2023 - We strongly encourage you to purchase day passes in advance for the summer months, weekends, school breaks and holidays. Day passes often sell out throughout the summer.

The park's overnight facilities are closed for renovations.

Road Closures

Park Road 1C will be closed from the intersection of Park Road 1A to the intersection of Harmon Road during the following times for natural resource management work:

• April 15 - 19, 2024 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• April 29 - May 3, 2024 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Park Road 1A will be closed from the intersection of Park Road 1B to the intersection of Park Road 1C April 22 - 26, 2024 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for revegetation work on the dam. The dam parking lot and the Blue Trail will also be closed.

Construction Notices

Expect loud construction noise and traffic in the following areas and times:

• An erosion control project near the cabins began in September 2023. 
• A bridge construction project will be underway in the Copperas Creek camping area from March 1 through June 1.

Lake Notice

Sept. 18, 2023 - The main lake is closed to prevent erosion as plants re-establish after construction. Fishing is available at Lake Mina. 

Special Event Closures

The MS150 bike race will be coming through Bastrop and Buescher state parks on Saturday, April 27, 2024. Expect heavy bike traffic and possible detours. The following areas will be closed to day pass holders on this day: 

• Bastrop: The Overlook, Lost Pines Loop trail and Post Oak Spur trail parking areas.
• Buescher: Park Road 1C from the Lakeview campground to park headquarters and the canoe barn lake access.

Roofing Project Notice

April 15, 2024 - A roofing project is underway in the day-use area. Areas surrounding the buildings will be roped off for safety over the next several weeks. Access will be limited to the picnic pavilion by the lake, the boat ramp and the parking area near the boat ramp. 

Roadwork Notice

May 15, 2023 - Roadwork has begun on FM 271 between Highway 78 in Bonham and FM 68 in Gober. Expect delays, narrow lanes and uneven surfaces on the way to the park.

Road Resurfacing Closures

Beginning March 18, 2024, the following areas will be intermittently closed for a road resurfacing project:

• Burr Oak water and electric sites; as well as restrooms and showers will be closed March 18 - April 18, 2024
• Red Buckeye water and electric sites, screened shelters, primitive campsites, mini cabin, and group dining hall; as well as restrooms and dump stations in these areas will be closed April 8 - May 4, 2024.
• Sections of Park Road 72 from the entrance to the Nature Center will be minimally impacted.

Please obey all signs. Expect loud noise from equipment and odor from tar and asphalt. Check back or contact the park for updates.

Park Capacity Closures

We usually reach full capacity on weekends, school breaks, holidays and some weekdays. People without reservations are not allowed in the park when we reach capacity. To guarantee entrance, reserve passes online, or by calling the customer service center, before you visit.

Special Event Closures

Flooding Closures

April 15, 2024 - Due to flooding and rising water along Big Cypress Bayou, the following areas are closed through April 23:

• Public boat ramp
• Sawmill Pond canoe rentals, fishing piers and personal watercraft launches
• Campsites along the bayou in Sawmill Pond

Trail Notices

March 4, 2024 - The main trailhead for the Talala Trail is closed due to road construction. You can access the trail from Penn Farm.

Trails close due to weather and for maintenance. Weather closures help limit trail and habitat damage. Call the park or check our Facebook page for updates before visiting.

Visiting the Park

We highly recommend reserving day passes in advance for weekends and holidays. If your plans change, please modify or cancel your reservation to allow someone else to visit. 

Invasive Ants

Argentine ants have been identified in some campsites in the park. These invasive ants do not sting. Please be prepared to treat around your vehicle and camping equipment.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is working with experts to reduce the number of ants without harming the park's natural resources. Learn more about the Argentine ant.

South Shore Boat Ramp Closed

Oct. 4, 2023 - The boat ramp at the South Shore unit is closed due to low lake levels.

Boat Ramp Use Limited

June 28, 2022 - The boat ramp is closed to boats requiring a trailer to load or unload due to low water level. Only kayaks and hand loaded/unloaded watercraft are allowed to use the ramp. Contact the park for more information. 

Trail Alert

Trails are closed to horseback riders after rainfall. Check conditions before you come by calling the park. 

Low Lake Level

May 16, 2023 - The lake level is extremely low. The boat ramp and fishing pier are closed, and the swimming area is dry. Contact the park for updates.

Partial Trail Closure

Jan. 27, 2023 - The Indian Lodge trailhead is closed due to renovations at Indian Lodge and can be accessed from the Montezuma Quail Trail only. The trail is 1.5 miles round trip from that intersection. 

Renovations Closure

Feb. 6, 2024 - Indian Lodge, including the Black Bear Restaurant, is closed for renovations. Reservations for 2024 will not be available until a reopening date has been set.

Paddler Notices

Aug. 22, 2023 - The Baker's Crossing launch is closed due to low flow levels in Devils River. The San Pedro Point launch is still open. Contact the park or check back for updates.

Sept. 17, 2021 - The Devils Back paddler take-out is closed due to road construction. Permit itineraries that do not include Devils Back are not affected.

We often reach capacity and highly recommend reservations for both camping and day use. Reserve passes online or by calling the customer service center before you visit.

OHV Trail Closures

April 9, 2024 - The OHV trails are closed due to inclement weather.

The OHV Trail will be closed for a special event on Saturday, April 27, 2024.

Fishing Pier Closure

On Saturday, April 20, and Sunday, April 21, 2024, both fishing piers will be closed for maintenance. The shoreline around the piers will remain open.

Area Closures

Jan. 29, 2024 - Certain areas of the park are closed for a road resurfacing project. Observe closure signs for your safety. 

Utility work on the Armadillo Hill Camping Loop will continue through spring 2024. The restrooms in the loop and the dump station are closed. Restrooms are available in other areas.

Reservations Required

Advanced reservations for day passes and overnight stays are required on weekends, school breaks and holidays. While not required on regular weekdays, we usually reach capacity every day. Guarantee your entry by reserving passes online or calling the customer service center before you visit.

Due to dry conditions, we urge you to use water wisely when you visit. Bring your own drinking water or you can buy bottled water at headquarters.

Road Construction

Jan. 26, 2024 - Roadwork is underway on FM 1015 next to the park's entrance. Expect lane closures and redirected traffic; use caution when entering and exiting the park. 

Boat Ramp Closed

April 12, 2024 - The river boat ramp is closed due to flooding.

Trail Closure

March 14, 2024 - Baines Creek Trail is closed. Check back for updates.

Reservations Recommended

Reservations are recommended (even for those with park passes). Reserve online or call the Customer Service Center before you visit. Spanish-speaking agents are available at the CSC. Carry your pass (either a printed or digital version) with you while in the park.

Cabins Closed

Feb. 1, 2024 - Cabins are closed for a re-roofing project. They will reopen once work is completed. 

Feral Hog Notice

Sept. 6, 2022 - Beware of feral hogs. Do not leave food unattended. Hogs will get into ice chests.

Dump Station Closure

March 13, 2024 - The park's dump station is closed. Check back for updates.

Water Shortage

March 7, 2024 - Water conservation measures are in place due to drought. Please bring enough water for your visit. Water is available at the campsites. Restrooms and showers are open in the camping area.

Camping Restrictions

Nov. 23, 2023 - Due to water shortages, we have enacted some camping restrictions.

• We are not accepting new camping reservations for Tuesday through Thursdays.
• We are not accepting walk-in campers at this time due to the water shortage.
• All reservations must be made by calling (512) 389 8911.

Restroom Closure

Feb. 22, 2024 - The restroom on the west side of North Mountain is closed. 

Swimming Area Closed

Sept. 14, 2023 - The swimming area is closed due to low lake levels. Check back for updates.

Lodge Closure

Indian Lodge, including the Black Bear Restaurant, is closed for renovations. Reservations for 2024 will not be available until a reopening date has been set.

Partial Trail Closure

Jan. 27, 2023 - The Indian Lodge trailhead is closed due to renovations at Indian Lodge and can be accessed from the Montezuma Quail Trail only. The trail is 1.5 miles round trip from that intersection. Contact the park for details.

Road Work

Sept. 26, 2023 - Park Road 4 adjacent to the park entrance is under construction. Traffic will be reduced to one lane Mondays through Fridays. Prepare for delays if visiting during this time.

Construction Noise

Jan. 3, 2024 - The new headquarters building is under construction near the West Loop camping area.  Expect loud noise from heavy equipment during daylight hours after 7 a.m. through May 2024.

Conserve Water

March 11, 2024 - Water conservation measures are in effect due to ongoing drought. Please bring all the water you expect to use with you. No water is available at campsites. Restrooms and shower facilities are open, but only have cold water.

Park Hours

The park is open from 8 a.m. Fridays through 4:30 p.m. Mondays. It is closed the rest of the week.

Low Lake Levels

Jan. 4, 2024 - Lake levels are low due to drought. Some watercraft or trailers may not be able to launch at the boat ramps. Please use caution.

Low Lake Level

March 7, 2024 - Due to low lake levels the courtesy docks at the boat ramp are closed. Two boat launch lanes remain open, but you will need to enter/exit your boat from the shoreline. 

Day-use Area Closure

Aug. 24, 2023 - The day-use areas on the north side of the park are closed due to damage from Tropical Storm Harold. Check back for updates.

Boat Ramp Closure

Aug. 8, 2023 - The Opossum Bend Boat Ramp is closed due to low lake levels. The Mesquite Boat Ramp is open. Contact the park or check back for updates.

Prescribed Burn

April 19, 2024 - The northern section of the Red Lakefront Trail and Penitentiary Hollow (including rock climbing activities) will be closed April 18 & 19, 2024 for prescribed burns. Smoke may linger for a few days after the burn is complete. Contact the park or check back for updates.

Trailway Closures

June 1, 2023 - Part of the trailway, from FM 1195 in Mineral Wells to the Vietnam War Memorial, is closed until further notice.

Campground Closure

The campground will be closed May 19-24, 2024 for roadwork. The day use areas will remain open, but we encourage you to check Facebook in May or call the park for details.

Argentine Ants

Argentine ants, an invasive species, have been identified in some campsites in the park. The ants do not sting.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is working with experts to reduce the ants without harming natural resources. Before leaving, thoroughly inspect your vehicle, RV, camping gear and other equipment; if you see the ants, please notify park staff immediately and they can offer guidance for treating. Trail Closure

The Slough Trail will be closed for repairs on Saturday, May 11, 2024 for maintenance.

Boat Ramp Closure

The Walnut Ridge Boat Ramp will be closed May 6-10, 2024 for Game Warden training exercises.

Mission and Campground Closure

March 19, 2024 - The park is open for day use, but the Commemorative Mission and campground are closed through the end of December 2024 for improvements.

The Interpretive Center, Rice Family Log Cabin and some hiking trails are open. Contact the park for updates.

March 25, 2024 - The following areas are closed:

• The lower part of the park (due to flood damage)
• The gate at the south end of park 
• Pavilions (Rock Tabernacle, Breezeway, & Wood Tabernacle)
• Water-only campsites

Swimming and fishing are unavailable until flood repairs and cleanup are completed.

Event Closures

May 30 through June 2, 2024 the park is hosting the '24 Hours in the Canyon' event. All of Park Road 5 from the Old West Stables to Mesquite campground, as well as all of Alternative Park Road 5 will be closed from 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, until 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2024. Contact the park for details.

Park Closed for Construction

Jan. 22, 2021 - The park is closed to all public access as road construction has begun. Check back for updates. 

Reservations Recommended

Guarantee entrance by making reservations for day passes or campsites before visiting on weekends, school breaks and holidays. Permits often sell out for these busy times.

Closures

• Campsites with electricity and water, as well as the Twin Falls Trail, will be closed April 1 through Dec. 31, 2024, due to a wastewater treatment plant project.
• The North Loop Equestrian Trail and Duck Pond are closed.

Dump Station Closure

Feb. 6, 2024 - The Bald Eagle Campground Dump Station is closed for maintenance. The dump station in the North Concho Equestrian Campground as well as one on the south side of the park in the Red Arroyo Campground are open.

Boat Ramp Notice

March 22, 2023 - The lake is too low to allow boat launches from the boat ramp. Kayaks and canoes can still be launched from the ramp. 

Sticker Bur Alert

We have lots of sticker burs in and around our campsites right now. Wear good shoes and be cautious with pets and children.

North Shore Gate Locked

Check in at the South Shore entrance (362 S. FM 2288) to get the gate code for the North Shore.

Planned Power Outage

A power outage is planned on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

Construction Notices

Feb. 5, 2024 - Campgrounds, trails and bird blinds are open and accessible. 

• The parking lots near the walk-in campsites are partially closed for amphitheater construction.
• Construction continues on a replacement of the low-water crossing at the park's entrance. Access to the river for tubing, paddling, fishing and swimming is available. Watch for signs or ask park headquarters about temporary river access points. River portage around construction is clearly marked.
• Expect construction noise, construction traffic on the roadways, and possible road or lane closures at the park.

Construction

Jan. 1, 2023 - Construction of a new park headquarters and Visitors Center next to the Cedar Point Camping Area is underway. Campers in Cedar Point should expect construction noise during daylight hours after 7 a.m.
