TUSCALOOSA, AL β€” The Tuscaloosa Police Department says a large alligator was hit by a train and killed on the tracks at Kauloosa Avenue sometime Monday.

Officers were called at 11:29 p.m. Monday and found the reptile dead. The gator, which from photos appears to be well over six feet in length, was removed from the tracks by police and the Tuscaloosa Department of Transportation was contacted.

While it is unclear where the gator came from, the closest bodies of water to the area where it was found are Cribbs Mill Creek and Friday Lake.
