Plastic collected

Every year, eight million tons of plastic is entering the ocean - that’s equivalent to a garbage truck of plastic every minute.1

Together CooperVision and Plastic Bank are working to slow ocean bound plastic and improve lives by empowering the regenerative society. Plastic Bank is building ethical recycling ecosystems in vulnerable coastal communities2 and reprocesses the materials for reintroduction into the global manufacturing supply chain.

Communities benefited

CooperVision plastic neutral contact lenses support communities in Indonesia and the Philippines by funding plastic waste collection within Plastic Bank’s ecosystems.

  • This support helps Plastic Bank fund community development programs that further improve the lives of collectors and their families5 with items such as health insurance, nutrition programs and access to Wi-Fi.

Lives improved

CooperVision, in collaboration with Plastic Bank, is working to stop ocean bound plastic and helping to improve lives. Putting this into perspective, 14 annual supplies of a one-day plastic neutral contact lens is equivalent to 10 kilograms of collected plastic6. This funds on average one of the following:

  • One day’s worth of groceries for a collector and their family
  • The payment of 15 days’ worth of an electric bill
  • 15 days’ worth of Internet data that can be used by a child for education

Our ongoing commitment to sustainability

Plastic plays a critical role in the hygienic delivery and sterile protection of our products3, and how that plastic is managed is important to us. We’re dedicated to more than developing exceptional quality products that help people see better each day.

clariti® 1 day is manufactured in Alajuela, Costa Rica, a Gold LEED certified site, MyDay® is manufactured in Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico, a Silver LEED certified site, and Biofinity® is manufactured in Scottsville, NY, a Silver LEED certified site, all manufacturing sites built with sustainability in mind, demonstrating that we have a strong track record of doing so with environmental responsibility.
