📰 Big news! Today, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced final energy efficiency standards for new homes. HUD and USDA are updating ASHRAE Standard 90.1 from the 2007 version to the 2019 version as its minimum energy standard for residential construction four or more stories. 🎉For residential buildings under four stories, HUD and USDA are updating the IECC from the 2009 version to the 2021 version. These standards apply to new construction for these agencies. Updating these energy standards is expected to result in savings of $75 million per year, or about $2 billion over the 30-year life-cycle of new homes. The 2021 IECC is 34.3% more efficient than the 2009 standard, and ASHRAE 90.1-2019 is 22.5% more efficient than the 2007 standard. ASHRAE had recommended that HUD and USDA update their standards to the most recent versions and ASHRAE is pleased that these updates are now final. 👏 To learn more about this announcement check out https://bit.ly/3UAX53v and get your copy of Standard 90.1-2019 at https://bit.ly/44fwwUw. #MyASHRAE
