Influential Musician and North Melbourne Superstar Honoured for Making the World a Kinder Place for Animals

Sydney – In a year filled with headlines about celebs who’ve gone vegan, two stars have stood out and been named PETA’s Most Beautiful Vegan Celebrities– inside and out: musician DJ Tigerlily (real name “Dara Hayes”) and North Melbourne Kangaroos forward Ben Brown.

2018 was huge for DJ Tigerlily, who toured extensively around the globe, dropped the super-catchy single “Kick Boom”on the Universal Music Group label, collaborated with Adidas, and bared her soul for animals when she posed au naturel for PETA.

Speaking during the shooting of her stunning “Go Natural, Go Vegan” ad – in which the starlet shone in nothing but a crown made of fruit and veg – Tigerlily revealed her joy at being vegan. “The best thing about being vegan is the way that it makes you feel and the immense amount of energy and happiness that I get after every single meal,” said the star, who also uses her popular blog to promote compassion, sharing everything from vegan recipes to her reasons for boycotting the Melbourne Cup, at which horses are whipped and pushed past their limits.

Doting “cat dad” Brown scored a whopping 61 goals in the 2018 season and was runner-up for the Coleman Medal – but it was his compassion for animals that caught PETA’s eye. Brown and his wife Hester – who will soon welcome their first child – turned heads on the red carpet at Australian Football League’s prestigious Brownlow Medal award ceremony by donning vegan outfits: a wool-free suit for him – meaning no sheep were harmed – and a silk-free, bump-hugging gown for her.

Speaking on The Footy Showearlier this year, Brown proved that he’s performing at his peak on plants, saying, “I’ve put a lot of time into making sure that my diet is really sound – which is probably something I wouldn’t have done … when I was actually eating meat. So I’m probably more on top of my diet than I’ve ever been and feeling really good.”

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat, wear, or abuse in any other way” – notes that Tigerlily and Brown faced tough competition this year, as more and more Aussies are going vegan all the time. Past winners of PETA’s annual contest include Liam Hemsworth, Courtney Act, David Campbell, Morgan Mitchell, and Bridget Malcolm.
